1. OneDrive Sign-In Prompt for Personal Microsoft Accounts. New Update
Overview
Even for the personal Microsoft account, OneDrive will now prompt users to sign in with the account no matter even if they are already signed in on a device. This change is rolling out this July and finishes being implemented in August 2025.
Basically, this prompt will be for the users who run both accounts: personal and a corporate OneDrive account on the same devices.
Impact
- If you are signed into a personal Microsoft account, you will have to sign in to OneDrive with that personal account, with account username and pw, upon asking, even if it’s already been active there.
- No merging of personal and corporate files. Data protection policies remain the same and in effect like previously.
- Admins can still disable this prompt-appearing thing via configuration policies. Yes, you can still avoid this nag, but via your admin.
Action Needed
- Admins may need to review current policies to be sure of their responses upon possible requests to turn these prompts off.
- If necessary, disable the prompt via admin policies.

2. Action Required: Secure Boot Certificates Expiring in June 2026
Overview
Microsoft is going to update Secure Boot certificates for all Windows systems released since 2012. Only 2025 Copilot+ PCs will be an exception.
These updates are going to be crucial for maintaining a secure startup environment as the existing certificates start expiring in June 2026. Now, this may impact Windows as well as third party OSs.
Impact
The expiration of Secure Boot certificates can literally make systems fail to boot securely. And this can potentially leave your whole environment quite vulnerable to security issues. So this matter needs your attention.
The change about to come surely requires you to ensure your firmware is updated on all affected systems, and your Windows diagnostic data needs to be enabled ON for a smoother updating process.
Action Needed:
- Verify firmware updates. You can go to your system’s OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) to do that;
- Make sure your Windows diagnostic data is enabled;
- Start preparations now to avoid potential booting issues.

3. Unified Teams App Management Rollout on Hold: Key Updates
Overview
The planned rollout of unified management for Teams apps, which was set to consolidate app settings in Teams, Outlook, Microsoft 365 app, etc, has been postponed.
This initiative was first announced in MC796790 as it was intended to streamline app management by bringing all settings into a single platform. But, any further updates on this process are going to be unavailable till late July 2025.
Impact
Organizations looking to manage Teams app settings on multiple platforms may need to wait for additional guidance before proceeding. The update is part of a broader strategy to integrate Teams more harmoniously into M365 ecosystem. The pause, however, is sure to temporarily delay these streamlining efforts.
Action Needed
- See current app & tenant settings to ensure readiness for any future changes;
- Stay informed. More details will be shared by late July this year;
Consider the impact of merge rules. Also, learn how settings might be consolidated on different platforms after the update process completes.

4. New Backup Prompt for Microsoft 365 Apps: What You Need to Know
Overview
Microsoft introduces new features in Microsoft 365 apps that will prompt users (only eligible) to backup their files to OneDrive. This feature is part of their efforts to ensure better file security and availability. The rollout started this April and it has already reached public preview and full Availability.
Impact
This prompt is appearing directly in these apps i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc, when the system detects that a certain file is important enough that it should benefit from being backed up. So, it helps users keep their files protected and easily accessible from any devices they use from anywhere by simply storing them in one secure place, OneDrive.
Action Needed
No immediate action required!!

5. New Rule-Based Management for Microsoft 365 Certified Apps in Teams
Overview
Microsoft enhances security as it introduces rule-based management for M365 certified apps in Teams. This new feature is rolling out globally between mid-August and early September 2025 as it allows M365 admins to control app availability according to specific rules. It will be enabled by default. So, it provides some tight, granular control over third party app access.
Impact
This update replaces the previous third party app tenant settings. Admins now have the ability to customize app availability i.e. criteria like permissions and publisher verification.
The “All apps available” setting is going to be enabled by default. But admins can choose to block specific apps. After the rollout is complete, a 30-day grace period will be provided which admins will use to adjust configurations.
Action Needed
No immediate action is required if “Org-wide app settings” are already enabled.
