Adaptiva OneSite: Workbench Part 1

March 18, 2014

These next three posts will focus on the Adaptiva Workbench. The Workbench is where the majority of the work in Adaptiva gets done. There are six categories of perspectives:

This article will focus on the Client Health and Content System categories. Next week will focus on Green Planet and Misc, and the week after that will be on Object Security and OneSite.

Workbench Overview

There are three concepts of the workbench. They are perspectives, views, and editors. A view is used to navigate to an editor, while a perspective is a combination of views and editors. An editor allows a user to change a configuration. There are two types of views – explorers and task navigators. Explorers display objects and show operations that can be performed on that object, while a task navigator displays a list of tasks that can be performed on an object.

Client Health

This perspective category contains all of the information about Adaptiva and SCCM client health. There are five perspectives in this category:

The first, Client Health Check Design Perspective, contains the health checks. There are options for all sorts of checks, from SCCM cache size to Adaptiva and SCCM client version. This is the designer for all of the checks and where the user would come to modify any of the checks. One of the more interesting options here is the ability for Adaptiva to create collections based on the results of the health check. This can give the administrator and quick view of what machines are failing, and also the ability to target a SCCM package to remedy the check. To set this option, open a check, scroll to the bottom, and check the “Generate a Health Check Collection for this Health Check”.

Next is the Client Health Task Navigator perspective. You can create new health checks from this perspective. Next is the Instant Client Health Collection Policy Perspective. Here you can execute a health check against a collection by right-clicking it in the Collection Explorer and selecting “Run Health Checks”. You can also schedule the health check.

The next perspective, Instant Client Health Machine Policy Perspective, is similar to the collection policy perspective. With this perspective, you can run or schedule the same health checks, while also being able to remove the Adaptiva client. Users can search by machine name, or primary user name to get a list of machines.

The final perspective under Client Health is Scheduled Client Health Policy Perspective. As the name suggests, this is where users can schedule health checks for all devices.

Content System

There is only one perspective under this category – Content Management Perspective. This perspective allows a user to stop all downloads between Adaptiva Clients across Adaptiva Offices. This does not stop traffic within an Adaptiva office. It only stops content transfers between offices.

Come back next week for information about the Green Planet (Wake On LAN) and Misc categories.
