VMware to Azure Migration Services By WME

WME migrates VMware VMs to Microsoft Azure, with a solid, defined process

Broadcom Changed the Bill. We Change the Infrastructure.

Perpetual VMware licensing is gone. IT teams running an on-premises VMware environment are absorbing costs that compound each renewal cycle.

The Licensing Math Doesn't Work Anymore

Broadcom’s VMware licensing shift has pushed costs up 3–10x for the same VMware workloads and disks across premises VMware environments.

Microsoft Azure delivers high availability, data protection, and disaster recovery solutions at a lower, more predictable cost. Azure Hybrid Benefit and Reserved Instances reduce spend further across Windows Server and SQL Server workloads.

Move early and control the VMware to Azure migration timeline. Wait, and the next renewal makes the decision for you.

Two Paths. One Decision Framework.

Every VMware migration comes down to two variables. How much you need to preserve and how fast you need to move.

Your Azure subscription, workload needs, and environment complexity decide the path.

Azure VMware Solution

Move vCenter Server into Azure-dedicated infrastructure. VMware workloads continue running natively with no re-architecture and no application changes. Business continuity remains stable through cutover. Best for complex premises environments with tight dependency chains and tight timelines.

Native Azure Migration

Migrate VMware VMs into Azure-native compute using agentless or agent-based migration. Azure Site Recovery, Azure Monitor, Azure Cost Management, and Azure Backup service get active from day one. Best for teams focused on cost efficiency and long-term Azure capabilities.

Not sure which path fits?

WME’s assessment maps your source environment, IP addresses, network traffic patterns, and management endpoints before any migration method is recommended.

Data Protection as an Afterthought

Backup and recovery configured post-migration means the window between cutover and protection is open. That's where incidents happen.

No Source Environment Inventory

Skipping the Azure Migrate appliance deployment means unknown dependencies, missed Linux VMs, and configuration gaps discovered in production.

Missing Cost Controls

No Azure Cost Management configuration means cloud spending runs unchecked from day one. Cost optimization requires setup because it isn't automatic.

No Landing Zone

Access controls fail inside the Azure environment before a single VM arrives. Network Security Groups missing from the target architecture break cloud solutions in production.

Skipped Initial Replication Validation

Unmonitored initial replication causes data loss across source VM disks. Data integrity breaks before cutover begins.

No Migration Waves

Without phased migration steps, business continuity fails. On-premises workloads go dark before the Azure environment is verified.

Most VMware to Azure migration failures are preventable. They share common causes like skipped steps, missing infrastructure, and data protection treated as an afterthought.

Where Migrations Break, and Why

Test

Test migration runs in an isolated Azure environment via Azure portal. Application performance, access controls, data protection, and cloud services connectivity are validated. No cutover proceeds without a successful test. Clean up test migration is completed before production failover. Technical support remains active throughout validation.

Cut Over

Cutover executes in a controlled window. Azure Monitor and Log Analytics go live immediately. Azure Backup service and Azure Disk Encryption are enabled across VM disks. Network Security Groups and cost controls are enforced. Azure Cost Management and Azure Automation are configured. On-premises workloads are decommissioned only after Azure environment verification and post-migration validation are complete.

Assess

Deploy the Azure Migrate appliance against vCenter Server. Every source VM is inventoried – source disk, performance baselines, dependencies, network traffic, IP addresses, and Active Directory relationships. The Azure Migrate project is scoped to the target region and Resource Group. Linux VMs, Windows VMs, and workload dependencies are mapped. Edge cases are flagged before migration begins.

Number 2 PNG

Plan

The Azure Migrate project defines migration waves across the datacenter. A Landing Zone is built – Network Security Groups, access controls, Entra ID integration, and management endpoints configured. Azure subscription is confirmed. Azure Hybrid Benefit and Reserved Instances applied. Target settings locked per VM. Cost savings and migration strategy are finalized before replication starts.

Number 3 PNG

Replicate

Start Replication across all source VMs. Initial replication is monitored per source disk. Delta sync runs after baseline replication. Azure Site Recovery manages replication health across workloads. Data integrity is validated continuously. Data disk caching and target configuration are reviewed per VM before testing begins.

Five phases. Defined outputs at each stage. No phase begins until the previous one is validated.

The WME Migration Framework

Cost Efficiency

Azure Hybrid Benefit, Reserved Instances, and Azure Cost Management reduce VMware licensing costs across Microsoft Azure workloads. Azure Automation continuously enforces cost optimization across the cloud environment, not only at migration.

Data Protection

Azure Backup service and Azure Disk Encryption protect all VM disks across the Azure environment. Azure Site Recovery supports disaster recovery solutions with validated replication. Backup configuration is completed and tested before production cutover.

Visibility & Security

Azure Monitor and Log Analytics provide real-time visibility across the cloud environment. Network Security Groups, Entra ID, and Active Directory integration are enforced from deployment. Threat protection and compliance controls are built into the architecture, not added later.

Post-migration best practices are not a checklist WME hands you. They’re configured, live, and verified before the engagement closes.

What You Own After Migration

The Next Step Is Yours

Every renewal cycle adds pressure on IT budgets and VMware workloads running in your premises environment.

The migration tools, Azure Migrate appliance, and Azure Site Recovery framework are already in place. The process for moving into Microsoft Azure is defined end-to-end. What remains is deciding when WME begins the migration.
