Monitor Information Reporting (MIR)
Enhansoft creates a SCCM extension that can add computer monitor information to your SCCM reports. This information can be vital when refresh time comes, as you can easily see how many of each type of monitor you have, thus providing a quick method to determine what needs to be refreshed. These reports can also give you information about power consumption, connection type, resolution, and aspect ratio. This article will go through the installation of the extension, as well as look at a few of the reports.
Installation
You must contact a representative at Enhansoft to get the software. There is no public trial without contacting them first. Once you get the installation bits, it is a simple MSI installation. You must have your license key file on hand. Note that installation will make changes to your SQL Reporting Server instance, as well as add new views to your database. I would suggest first installing this in a development SCCM instance to ensure its compatibility with your system.
During installation, you will be asked for your reporting server information. Be sure to check and make sure that it is correct. After installation, you can also look at your client settings in the SCCM console to ensure that the MIR hardware inventory classes are there. To check these, open your SCCM console and go to Administration>Client Settings. Open the properties of your device settings policy and go to hardware inventory. When you click on “Set Classes”, there should be two MIR classes that look like this:
If you expand these, you can see all of the classes that MIR will get.
Reports
After a hardware inventory cycle has completed, your reports should begin populating. If you open your reporting site, there will be a new directory of reports:
From here, we can view all of the information about our device displays:
There are several helpful reports here, such as “Count of Monitor Models by Manufacturer”, “Count of Monitors by Manufactured Year”, and “List of all PCs with Projectors”. As you can see, these reports can also give you information about power management settings.
Keep in mind also that these reports can all be modified in the SQL Reporting Services reports manager. You can take these queries and add them to other reports as needed.
