The Problem / Opportunity
The organization was running an outdated and unstable on-premises SharePoint farm and needed several terabytes of data from that farm, plus local network file shares, migrated to SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business with minimal user impact.
The WME Solution
WME performed numerous migration cycles using available tooling and authored several custom PowerShell scripts to handle tasks not covered by any vendor tool at the time.
Challenges Encountered & Solved
The client did not want to purchase a license for a more robust migration solution such as ShareGate, which limited WME to Microsoft’s free migration tool. That tool was effective but limited, so many tasks still had to be performed using the PowerShell SPOMigration modules. The migration was completed without incident, though the process took longer as a result.
