Modify Asset Intelligence Hardware Inventory Report for Lenovo
Lenovo stores its model information in a different WMI class property then most other manufactures. This post details how to add an additional column to the “Hardware 01A – Summary of computers in a specific collection” report to include this information. While this post details a particular solution, it can also be used as a general introduction to custom reports.
First, you will need the attached report (RDL) file. You can import this report into your environment through the SSRS report manager site on your reporting point. Navigate to the report folder where you want to import the report and click Upload File in the top bar.
Navigate to the file and upload it. Next, hover over of the report and click the download arrow to the right of the name and select “Edit in Report Builder”. Report Builder will download and open on your computer.
Next, you will need a data source. In report builder, right-click on “Data Sources” and select Add Data Source. Click Browse. It should open your report point. If the box is not in the ConfigMgr_<site code> folder, open that folder. Scroll all the way to the end and select Data Connection.
Now, expand the Datasets node and right-click on DataSet0 and click DataSet Properties. When you open this box, it should change the “Data Source” box to read DataSource1. Repeat this for DataSet1 and DataSetAdminID.
Now you can click “Run” in the ribbon and execute the report to ensure that it works. You should have a new column titled “Model-Lenovo” with your Lenovo model information. After you confirm that it works, click the SQL Server icon in the top-left corner and select “Save”. This will save the report to your report server.
I renamed the report to Hardware 01B to get it some version control. You can either delete Hardware 01A, move it somewhere else, or just leave it in place.
