Recently I completed a project for a customer regarding Azure Information Protection (AIP). AIP is cloud based applicated that helps protects documents and email by assigning labels. The labels are used for classification purposes and is identifiable regardless of who has the documents. The data is protected using Azure Rights Management Service (RMS) and is available with the Microsoft Enterprise Mobility + Security E3 and Microsoft Secure Productive Enterprise E3 license. Login to the Azure portal and search for Azure Information Protection
Once inside AIP, you can start creating labels which will determine rights, security settings, and the user group for policy scope. To publish a label to a group, the group must be mail security enabled.
Once the label is created, click on Azure RMS and configure the rights on the user or user group for the document
While AIP is a great tool for data protection, it is useless without an effective plan before implementation. The user must also have the AIP client installed on the machine. The costumer that I worked with used SCCM and a .MSI is provided for easy deployment. Microsoft is steadily improving its cloud offerings especially in the security field. AIP is a wonderful way to protect company sensitive data and accomplish security initiatives!
